Dovetail consultants use a strength-based approach that sees beyond the diagnosis to the person…

Your journey with us

To begin your journey with Dovetail, we need to understand your situation and needs.

Before our first appointment, we ask you to tell us about the services and supports you need and share any relevant documentation you have. Our therapists thoroughly read through these so we have accurate background knowledge of your diagnosis, strengths, and barriers before we begin our partnership with you.

Book your first appointment.

Dovetail consultants use a strength-based approach that sees beyond the diagnosis to the person. At this first appointment, we discuss your child’s developmental goals, the stage they are at now, and identify any systemic barriers. We explore their difficulties, personal challenges and goals and hear from you about any supports or therapies already in place.

We may also ask your permission to speak to other therapists so we gain as much information about your child as we can before working on your personal plan.

The consultant you talk to at this session is the person who will partner with you to create and action your plan. Appointments can be in your home, another setting that suits you better or via telehealth.

Dovetail creates your personal plan.

Your Dovetail consultant maps out a plan appropriate to the goals you want to achieve.

Every client journey is different, but a typical plan can include:

  • Review of all documentation relevant to your child

  • Observations of your child to identify barriers and suggest possible strategies and interventions.

  • Therapy to assist with skills such as executive function, learning how to complete daily living tasks, how to make friends, emotional regulations skills, behaviour support. sexual and self-identity education, independent living skills, and communication skills.

  • Assistance for parents and guardians in their knowledge and skills base.

  • Transition planning and support as your family navigates changes.

  • Case conference meetings with your child’s support team.

The Dovetail team partner with you for the journey.

We take a flexible approach to make sure each step is appropriate for your child and moves them towards the goals in your plan.

If needed, we can also work with school staff read Oscar got a B! on your behalf to help them understand your specific needs in relation to your diagnosis or the barriers your child is facing.

At the completion of your personal plan, we create an End of Plan report for the NDIS detailing how we have worked towards your goals.
